Tonya Surman est l'une des cofondatrices du Centre for Social Innovation (CSI), une entreprise sociale situ\u00e9e \u00e0 Toronto, au Canada, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans la cr\u00e9ation d'espaces de travail partag\u00e9s destin\u00e9s aux personnes et aux organisations ayant une mission sociale.<\/p>\n

Fond\u00e9 en 2004, le CSI est rapidement devenu un v\u00e9ritable vivier d\u2019innovation sociale. En 2009, l\u2019organisation disposait de 28 000 pieds carr\u00e9s d\u2019espaces lou\u00e9s et comptait plus de 175 membres dynamiques, ainsi que des projets engag\u00e9s en faveur du changement social. La liste d'attente \u00e9tait si longue qu'il \u00e9tait \u00e9vident qu'il fallait agrandir les locaux. Tonya a alors eu une id\u00e9e audacieuse : \u00ab Et si on achetait un immeuble ? \u00bb.<\/p>\n

En tant qu'association \u00e0 but non lucratif prosp\u00e8re, elle s'\u00e9tait forg\u00e9 une solide r\u00e9putation et s'\u00e9tait constitu\u00e9 un r\u00e9seau \u00e9tendu, mais elle ne disposait d'aucun actif \u00e0 mobiliser et pratiquement pas d'argent, avec seulement $50 000 d'exc\u00e9dent cumul\u00e9. Le b\u00e2timent qu'elle esp\u00e9rait acqu\u00e9rir co\u00fbtait $6,8 millions, achat et r\u00e9novation compris.<\/p>\n

Ils ont donc d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de tirer parti de leur meilleur atout : leur communaut\u00e9. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019est n\u00e9 le \u00ab CSI Community Bond \u00bb, qui leur a permis de proposer \u00e0 leur r\u00e9seau de sympathisants une opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019investissement admissible au REER. En l\u2019espace de quatre mois, ils ont lev\u00e9 $1,4 million (puis finalement $2 millions), sont devenus propri\u00e9taires de leur tout nouveau b\u00e2timent et se sont pr\u00e9par\u00e9s \u00e0 accueillir plus de 300 nouvelles organisations \u00e0 vocation sociale.<\/p>\n
