Meet Tapestry
In 1998, a group of passionate community members decided to build North America’s first urban wind turbine. With perseverance, community support, and the investment of 600 committed individuals, the project came to life. This wind turbine that stands proudly on Toronto’s lakeshore has become a beacon for sustainable energy and community investment across Canada.
This project inspired some of Canada’s most notable community bond campaigns, including those led by SolarShare, ZooShare and the Centre for Social Innovation. These projects became the first threads of our Tapestry.
Witnessing the success of community investment in renewable energy, we committed ourselves to making community bonds accessible across all sectors, from education to affordable housing. With our full service support, we make it easy for nonprofits and cooperatives across Canada to raise funds on their terms, bring their projects to life, and build deep connections with their community in the process.

Jennifer believes that social finance creates healthy, vibrant communities. At Tapestry, she assists organizations in structuring effective community bond campaigns and building a strong investor and supporter base to raise funds for projects that make an impact. She has many years of sales and marketing experience in renewable energy, environment, arts, and the not-for-profit sector, and strives to bring creativity and ingenuity to every campaign.
After spending 11 years as a Professional Accountant in the University of Benin in Nigeria, and gaining a wealth of experience, Ebosetale (Ebose) is bringing those skills to support the Finance team and the Co-ops in the TREC family in managing the payables, receivables, and other Admin support as needed. In her spare time, she likes to watch movies and play board games with her two young sons.
Steph is an environmental scientist by training and a marketing enthusiast at heart. She loves to tell stories of community resilience and innovation, and is passionate about using words and imagery to inspire positive change. Steph leads Tapestry's marketing and community engagement activities, building awareness of community bonds as a viable financing mechanism for non-profits, charities and co-ops all across Canada.
Mary is responsible for overseeing administration and accounting for Tapestry. Mary has her post-graduate degree in International Project Management and a love of bookkeeping, budgeting and financial reporting.
Sanderson supports in Tapestry’s community investor services, ensuring secure data management and investment processing. Sanderson has a strong interest in social and environmental causes.
Ryan leads social impact at Tapestry, helping social enterprises raise capital from their communities to bring bold projects to life. Since his time at Ivey Business School, Ryan has pursued his belief in community-focused business working on innovation projects in libraries, social shelters and music festivals.
Suzanne is a recent graduate of the University of Toronto's Masters of Science in Planning. As Knowledge Lead, Suzanne researches community bonds and their application. In particular, Suzanne works to scale the use of community bonds by building awareness of the model through knowledge mobilization, translation and generation. She also works to build the necessary partnerships that help support knowledge mobilization and generation. Outside of Tapestry, Suzanne loves to sing, weave, climb and bike.
Karen is Tapestry's Human Resources and Admin Manager. Karen brings a wealth of experience in administration and finance, and has worked throughout their career to support teams in creating social and environmental impact.
Satyameet (Sattu) believes that people want to do good when given an opportunity. As part of Tapestry's campaign team, he supports clients in reaching their investment goals and bringing their meaningful projects to life. With a decade of experience in sales, marketing and program management at We, Schulich School of Business and Good Foot Delivery, he loves meeting targets, putting his business school knowledge to use and keeping spirits high.
After spending a number of years in the music industry, Kate returned to school to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Linguistics at the University of Toronto. She now takes care of payables and receivables for Tapestry, as well as a number of other organizations supported by Tapestry's parent organization, TREC.
Marina comes to Tapestry as a Campaign Coordinator with a wide range of professional experience in client services, communications and marketing in the music industry, politics and journalism. She has been called “the queen of structured fun” and strongly believes that every party has a good plan. In her personal life, Marina enjoys yoga, cooking and the part of going camping where she gets to write an email to all participants with a detailed plan and a shared Google Sheet.
Kyle supports business development at Tapestry. Since graduating from York University with a degree in Finance, he has held various roles in the social impact sector including strategy, fundraising, impact measurement, and community engagement. Kyle is eager to learn more about the social finance space and leverage his skillset to help Tapestry achieve scaled impact.
Ashley comes to Tapestry with a degree in Commerce with a concentration in Information Systems and background in banking and client services. She has always had an interest in finance and social causes and is eager to learn more about the social finance space and the impact of community bonds. As Investment Associate she supports investment management services and provides investment administration to all clients and their investors. Outside of work she enjoys keeping active, reading, and travelling as much as she can with friends and family.
A strong believer in the power of community, Heather is thrilled to bring her background in social finance, facilitation, and leadership coaching to Tapestry. Working with purpose driven organizations and supporting them in reaching their community investment and social impact goals makes coming to work easy. Outside of Tapestry, Heather enjoys cooking, reading, biking and hiking in the woods with her dogs, kids and husband.
Our Board
Bill researched wise residential energy use in Ontario Hydro, and advocates for it in retirement. He also advocates for employee benefit security as a Director of his union's Pensioners’ Chapter, and elsewhere.
Bobby is a strategist at RBC focused on solving challenging problems. In his former life, he was a litigator. Bobby is passionate about mentorship and driving positive change within organizations and in the community.
Brian is a founding partner of Iler Campbell LLP, an innovative law firm with a primary focus on providing legal services and advice to Ontario’s charities, co-operatives, and non-profits.
David is managing partner of the accounting firm Prentice, Yates & Clark, and specializes in accounting, auditing and financial reporting for non-profit organizations.
Adam is a strategy consultant based at McKinsey & Company’s Toronto office, where he leverages his cross-sector experience to translate insights into action. He holds a dual degree MBA & Master of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto.
Patrick is an audit partner at the accounting firm, Grant Thornton LLP where he specializes in providing assurance, tax, and financial reporting solutions to clients.
Rebecca Black (she/her) is a design strategist and eco-entrepreneur. She is founder of environmental communications agency Black Current, Co-Founder of the innovative dESiGning ESG™ training program and DEI championing nonprofit Women in Renewable Energy WiRE, and Chair of the Board of TREC Renewable Energy and Community Finance incubator. Rebecca holds a Master of Environmental Studies specializing in Business & Sustainability (York University), and a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight & Innovation (OCADU). A social entrepreneur-operator and an investor, MJ helped build a multi-million-dollar micro-loan portfolio in rural India and a co-operative that served over 200 women entrepreneurs. Through his advisory firm, he has helped deploy over C$150M through private-market impact investing, and another C$250M through responsible investment strategies for family offices and foundations, including the Hamilton Community Foundation, the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation, and the Upper Canada Equity Fund. MJ is Treasurer for Computers for Success Canada, a Board Director for The Helderleigh Foundation and Philanthropic Foundations Canada, and sits on the Impact Investment Committee for the Laidlaw Foundation and the Investment Advisory Committee for the Foundation for Black Communities. MJ’s passion for social change is complemented by his experience in capital markets, corporate strategy, and global health, and his degrees in Computer Engineering and M.B.A.
Homaira is a Senior Policy Advisor within the Conservation and Renewable Energy Division (CRED) at the Ontario Ministry of Energy. Her experience in the energy sector spans across North America, where she tackles complex issues with clients including distribution utilities, regulators, independent system operators, government entities, and private firms.
Stephanie is a design researcher and strategist specializing in sustainability. Currently leading the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy at AIR MILES, she is focused on building equitable and inclusive communities, products and services.
